The visit of Tarbes will not take weeks to you... The town planners of the Sixties did not leave large thing of last... Thus let us go to essence.

Appointment on the place of Verdun: it is there which begins the visit. Benefit from the climate, and make this circuit with feet (you can leave your car in the car park under the place).

  • La place de Verdun
The place which was renovated in 1992 is decorated of 2 fountains of Jean-Marc LLORCA (who also has creates the fountains of the Pyramid of the Louvre)

    Take the rue Massey

  • Massey's Garden
    Rue Massey  (05 62 44 38 38)

It is " the garden " which had arranged Placide Massey in the middle of the 19th century. A populated park of peacocks and ducks, in which you will be able to see a great diversity of trees. It is also the point of rallying of the children...

This Tarbais, after its studies at the Central School of Tarbes, to Paris will work with the Botanical garden, under the direction of the one of its former professors. Then he   becomes intendant of the gardens of the Queen Hortense, Inspecteur in the administration of the Parks and Directeur of the seedbeds of Trianon, of the kitchen garden of Versailles, the florist of Sevres and the Park of Saint-Cloud.

Il

He bought 11 hectares of meadows on which he projects to make his park. While dying, it leaves at the city the unfinished park, and many projects... The city will then give to the park its current aspect, by building the greenhouse and by buying the cloister of Saint-Sever.

  • Massey's museum
    in the Massey's Garden 05 62 36 31 49)

Located in the Massey garden, it is composed of two distinct parts:
- the museum of the hussards, which will interest especially impassioned hussards... (05   62   36   12   83)
- the picture gallery, with some interesting fabrics.

Leave the Garden by the street André Fourcade, while taking it towards the line you will arrive at the centre town, close to the town hall. Return in the place of Verdun by the street Brauhauban (pedestrian).

  • The native house of Theophile Gautier
On the right of the rue Brauhauban

  • St Jean Chruch
On the left on the rue Brauhauban

Cross the place of Verdun (or made a small pause, with the terrace of one of the coffees of the place), and take the rue de l'abbé Torné

You enter the oldest zone of Tarbes. certain houses date from the 17th century.

  • Impérial college
On your left, the imperial college, now call Lycée Theophile Gautier"

  • Native house of Marechal Foch
    2, rue de la victoire (05 62 93 19 02)
A small museum devoted to this Tarbais is arranged in the house or it was born in October 1851.

To   the ground floor are presented documents which recall the life of Ferdinand Foch.
On the floor, its furniture, with in particular the chair in which he died, in Paris.

Moreover, the house is characteristic of the Tarbes old man.

Continue on the rue de l'abbé Torné

  • La cathédrale de la Sède
    (05 62 93 08 75)

The part the oldest (the bell-tower, the apse and the transept) date of 12th and 13th century. The remainder was added to the 18th century.

The square of the cathedral gives on a pleasant place, with in the south the frontage of the prefecture of the Hautes-Pyrénées

Vis-a-vis with the cathedral, other with dimensions of the place is the hospital of Ayguerote

Du parvis de la cathédrale, prenez la rue de la Bigorre, puis la rue des Pyrénées à droite.

  • Les haras nationaux
    70, avenue du régiment de Bigorre (05 62 56 30 80 ou 05 62 56 31 00)
Great whole of the 19th related one to the establishment of the hussards for which it was necessary to provide horses. The hussard since forsook the horses which turned to the competition.
The whole in beautiful and large park of ten hectares, planted cedars and magniolias.

see also  the National Stud farms

Take the street of September 4,

The Larrey district, which is the seat of one of the two regiments established in Tarbes.

The equestrian statue of the Foch marshal

Pass by the alleys of the Leclerc General

These shaded alleys shelter a memorial which has small dimensioned " rather " original Guernica

and the Gambetta course, which finishes the visit

You can envisage a stop by shop Valantin the chocolate (it is expensive but good, and when one likes that...)

You returned in the place of Verdun

Deliver to me your opinion on this circuit

You can also go to see...
