Le Carmel (Tarbes)
The chapel of the old Carmel has now become an exhibition space for the City of Tarbes.
Carmel was founded in 1870. The Carmelites thus built their vast monastery in a district of the city where urbanization was just beginning on a property which extended north of the eastern canal (now rue Georges Magnoac). Cloistered nuns having chosen the contemplative life, they organized their convent according to the rules of St. Therese of Avila. In 1988, Carmel was transferred to Laloubère. Various elements of the Old Carmel of Tarbes have been stored there, in particular the bells, the stained glass windows of the Chapel, the statues, the choir stalls ...
