What can you tell us about this split you're releasing at the Celtic?
It's an eight-track EP, four of which we recorded separately. We met up when Pegazio played at the Celtic in April. We suggested doing a split with them, and they liked the idea. We recorded it this summer, took the time to mix it and create the artwork, and now it's being released.
Did this encounter with Pegazio inspire you?
Oh yes! Because we're fans, especially me, of what they've done. Like Headcases, who at the time were an unknown band in France that should have made something. They broke up, which is a real shame. Mathieu, the drummer, also plays in Billy Gaz Station, who have already played at the Celtic. And the bassist also plays in Microfilm, a band that's also doing very well in France. We were very happy when they agreed to do a split with us. They're one of our influences, so we're really happy to be working with them on this split!
How are you evolving musically?
Musically, we're trying to take a few more risks. At the beginning, we focused on simplicity and effectiveness. We're still being effective, but we want to push things a bit further. Jan joining us on bass has significantly influenced our songwriting. It's not faster, but it fits better with the vibe we set for ourselves. We definitely have influences like At the Drive-In, and it shows. Fugazi too, in terms of approach, the underground feel. And we're prioritizing our own enjoyment before worrying about what other people will think of the music.
And after the split?
We're working on an LP that we just recorded in September at La Trappe studio in Toulouse, live and in analog with tapes and everything. It's currently being mixed, and I'm working on the artwork now. It's coming out in March on the NotAPub label [an association promoting music from Tarbes, created at the Celtic venue - Ed.]. It's become our official label now! We're planning to release it on March 12th, and it will obviously be at the Celtic venue. The release of this first LP is going to be a pivotal moment for the band, and we're both nervous and excited. We like it, we're happy with what we've done, and that's already a great start! After that, we're going to tour to promote it; I'm working on booking the dates. 2011 is shaping up to be a busy year with concerts all over France in March and April. We'd also like to try and go to England or Italy to get some exposure.
