Interview Robert Papasian - Le Celtic (Tarbes)

The sunny jazz of Robert Papasian returns to the Celtic Pub

During these school holidays, the Celtic continues its programming with a weekend featuring Robert Papasian, who will add his jazz touch between two evenings that promise to be decidedly rock. A return to the Celtic not to be missed for this jazzman, a regular at the Caveau de la Huchette in Paris.

What kind of jazz will you be offering us on Sunday evening?

This time it will be a guitar-bass duo. A duo that will quickly become a trio with the vocals, which act as the third musician. It will be a jazz foundation, with all the surrounding influences, like Latin or Brazilian music. And since I sing in nine languages, I cover a very wide range: depending on the mood, I can move towards a Central European repertoire, or something more klezmer with music from around the Mediterranean.

We should recapture the wonderful atmosphere of last year's concert!

I think so! The one and only Nino Ferrer is a superb bassist. We have a great connection, and it's fantastic to play with him! Plus, I'm very happy to be back at the Celtic because there's a great atmosphere. There's something special about this place; there's an aura about it. It's like when I'm at the Caveau de la Huchette; it's always a pleasure to play there.

A very warm atmosphere is in store!

With the current weather and the sub-zero temperatures, that will be just fine!

What are your plans?

I'm going to put together a trio: Hammond organ, drums, and guitar. And of course, vocals too. I'd also like to relive the great experience we had in Arras-en-Lavedan, where we held a mini-festival over three days two years ago. It went very well, and I'd like to do it again this year, outside of the summer months when everyone is already rushing around, going from one festival to another.
