Soldes privées

Private sales are not sales until the winter sales of 2025. [mis à jour]

With the private sales, there are already some great deals offered to current customers, and not only them. But it's only on Wednesday, with the official start of the sales, that the specific regulations governing sales will provide greater protection for customers. So, should we wait or not?

Even though stores offer numerous private sales, promotional sales, and other marketing campaigns throughout the year, and especially in the lead-up to the official sales period, the start of the sales is an eagerly awaited event for bargain hunters. It's one of the rare occasions when retailers can sell off their excess stock at a loss. This is particularly true for textiles, from clothing to linens, where sales have been sluggish. Just a few days remain before the 2025 winter sales, which begin on Wednesday, January 8th, when physical stores open and at 8:00 AM online. And since neither the unsettled weather nor the current social climate has been conducive to sales at the levels retailers hoped for, discounts are expected to be as generous as necessary to clear stock. This trend is clearly reflected in the pre-sales private sales and promotional campaigns since Black Friday.

Wait for the winter sales or take advantage of private sales right away?

Private sales are essentially sales before the official sales. However, the rules differ because while distance selling regulations apply to both, the specific regulations governing sales do not apply to private sales. Therefore, you must choose between the wider selection offered by private sales and regulations that provide strong consumer protection.

The sales period is a clearly defined period governed by regulations, coupled with distance selling regulations that offer significant consumer protection. While the "no returns, no exchanges" policy is common in physical stores, online retailers cannot implement it. The law stipulates that online shoppers must have a cooling-off period. This allows consumers to change their minds about their purchase, which can be exercised before or 14 days after delivery. Except for certain specific products defined by Article L221-28, which includes, for example, the purchase of clearly personalized items, food, or items unsealed by the consumer after delivery that cannot be returned for hygiene or health protection reasons. Apart from these specific cases, the "no returns, no exchanges" policy does not apply to online sales because the customer must be able to exchange their item or receive a refund, without penalty and without having to justify their decision.

Clothing: Standard is cheaper and high-end is more affordable.

Winter sales offer the opportunity to invest in essential, quality pieces at reduced prices to stay warm throughout the winter season, from coats and sweaters to scarves and boots. Winter items are often heavily discounted during sales, with great savings available now. And don't forget sports equipment if you've made fitness resolutions for the new year.

Private sales set the tone with discounts of up to 70% on spring/summer collections, such as those offered by Asos, Spartoo, and Bocage, with pre-sales of up to 50% off. But the sales are also an opportunity to treat yourself or someone special to brands that are usually less affordable, like those found at Stella McCartney or Zadig & Voltaire. Whether you're looking for a summer dress, a trendy swimsuit, or children's clothing, the sales offer a multitude of choices. And the second and third markdowns quickly bring prices down even further, although the selection is much more limited.

Home Goods on Sale

Summer sales aren't limited to clothing and accessories; they also offer great opportunities to buy home goods at very attractive prices. Everything you need to refresh your interior décor. Whether it's cushions, curtains, rugs, or lamps, winter sales often offer significant discounts on a variety of items to beautify your living space and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at home. This also applies to furniture, linens, and appliances. Take the time to compare prices and do some research before the sales begin to maximize your chances of finding the best deals.

Tech Products Also on Sale

Even if the weather doesn't directly affect autumn sales—except for heating and air conditioning, of course—the sales period is a particularly busy time of the shopping season. This is a milestone for monitoring sales volumes, which can be boosted with promotions that inflate sales and...
