Trie-sur-Baïse
A country house nestled on the banks of the Baïse river and surrounded by fertile farmland, Trie-sur-Baise is home to just over 1,200 people. The Pyrenees lie to the south and the Gers hills to the north. Founded in 1323, Trie follows the traditional plan of medieval bastides (found only in the southwest): a square plan, a central square with a covered market and arcades around the edges, and an impressive church in the main square. Many bastide towns, including Trie, later added fortifications and towers to protect the town center from invaders.
