Listed as historic monuments in 1910, the Gargas caves have revealed many archaeological treasures. They were frequented by tribes of Cro-Magnon men, hunter-collectors who left many traces of their passage in the ground of the entrance hall of Gargas I. The most glaring testimony of our prehistoric ancestors is expressed by the diversity and richness of the representations left on the walls. In Gargas, it is possible to see both engravings and animal paintings, geometric signs, sexual symbols and especially negative hands.
