On the way to the Tarbes Geek Festival

On December 3rd and 4th, the exhibition center will host the Tarbes Geek Festival. This event promises to bring together video game enthusiasts, manga fans, and web culture aficionados. While we wait for December, we wanted to learn more about the preparations for this event by meeting with Alexandre N'gobo, president of the Joystick association, which initiated this project.

How's the festival organization going?

We're making progress on the program and launching the communication campaign. We already have the website and poster, and we're continuing with our partner Fun Radio and promotional events like the one we're organizing from October 19th to 22nd in the Méridien shopping center, featuring video game tournaments and a preview of what the festival will be like.

Why a geek festival?

With the Joystick association, we regularly organize small events. We wanted to take it a step further to promote geek culture in Tarbes and open it up to the general public.

What can we expect to see at this festival?

There will be guests like Daniel Ichbiah, the French biographer of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, video game tournaments, music, competitions like the cosplay contest with manga fans showcasing extraordinary costumes, exhibitors, and much more. But the program is still evolving: we've just added a new guest, Philippe Ariotti, the French voice of Frieza in Dragon Ball Z.

Will the Tarbes Geek Festival be just for geeks?

No, far from it. Geek culture encompasses a wide range of things. From games, we move on to manga, and from manga to Japan. And so on, leading, for example, to the presentation of traditional Asian products like katanas or maneki-neko, the little porcelain lucky cats. There are also other aspects like heroic fantasy, computer science, and multimedia. Ultimately, it's very broad!
