A great theatrical moment awaits Tarbes audiences on Thursday evening at the Parvis. More than thirty years after presenting the Mahabharata with Jean-Claude Carrière in the main courtyard of the Palais des Papes in Avignon, Peter Brook is revisiting the work. A play that has become a theatrical monument, a myth that reaches a much wider audience than those who saw it at its premiere. But Battlefield is not a revival of the Mahabharata. Firstly, by its length, because while the Mahabharata lasted more than nine hours, Battlefield revisits the Sanskrit tale in a completely refined and concise form, reflecting the dynamics that Peter Brook developed in his book The Empty Space. Secondly, by the intention, which is no longer to follow in the footsteps of the tale, to deliver its spirit in its most condensed form, to deliver all its intensity! A few months after its premiere at the Bouffes du Nord, Peter Brook's home with the incredible charm of this gently dilapidated theater, the play continues to mature in the minds of those who have seen it. I can attest to that! We are therefore eagerly awaiting the return of this beautiful gem on Thursday evening on the Parvis stage, this theatrical spirit from an Indian tale that tells us more about the man than the man himself. A great epic that needs neither a grand set, nor grand movements, nor much time to reveal its essence. You would have to be at the end of the world to miss this show!
