Is the choreography for the wedding fair runway show your last connection to Tarbes?
For now, I don't have any other event projects other than the wedding fair, which connects me to Tarbes. I work with the Tarbes-based association Arts65, on the Wedding Fair and on other projects that have been relocated to Valencia, Spain, or Paris, like the Pinknik party last June.
11 years of the Wedding Fair runway show means 11 different runways?
Yes. This year, I wanted to focus on a completely different theme, that of artificial intelligence, which is taking up a huge amount of space in the world. To talk about human relationships at a time when they're being somewhat lost. And the connection with the Wedding Fair runway show is quite natural when we talk about essential human values, with love at the forefront. And in the story of this show, it's artificial intelligence that helps us realize that we would be lost if we didn't return to these essential values.
Isn't it difficult to reconcile a choreographic show and a runway show?
No, you just have to rack your brains to bring this garment to life within a theme linked to love and marriage. And even the wedding fair announcements are in keeping with the theme. When the audience enters the fair, they gradually enter the theme through the various aisles, arriving at the runway show that highlights the dresses, that sets the clothes in motion. And the show reaches a wider audience than those planning their wedding because it's a real spectacle.
And on Tuesday, you'll be at the Parvis with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Are you adding theater to the range of possibilities?
I've been thinking about theater for a while now. It's been more than 10 years since I came to Tarbes to perform Tutu at the Théâtre des Nouveautés during the Estivales de la Danse. There were six of us on stage, we acted, we talked, we danced. I was spotted by Julie Ferrier. I worked with her on "A ma place vous Ferrier quoi?" at the Théâtre de La Madeleine and on tour. At the same time, I continued to work as an assistant on operas and major shows. And Glysleïn Lefever asked me to assist him on Domino Noir directed by Christian Hecq and Valerie Lesort. Since they saw that I could also act, they offered me a role in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was still under the auspices of the Comédie Française before being revived at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin in May 2023 for 45 dates. We've been touring ever since, and I'm very happy to be in Tarbes. Dance, theater, events, directing. Where are your limits? People say I have an artistic Swiss Army knife side. Actually, it's because I get bored easily and I like to dabble in a little bit of everything. I always remain very open to collaborations. Because that's what I have, because all collaborations also allow me to expand my artistic palette. It all works together, it enriches my own projects.
Do you have any other projects? Already with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, we're going back to a residency at a theater in Switzerland. And we'll be going on tour again afterward. I made a short film (LV2) with the Akuakonkas collective, which is being presented at the Nikon Film Festival. Voting has just opened, so don't hesitate, it's free! I'm also working on the Hello Gorgeous project, which I'm putting together in Valencia. It's scheduled for July. And since the Pinknik party went down so well last year in Paris, we're planning the next one.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at the Parvis on Tuesday and Wednesday
Christian Hecq and Valerie Lesort's adaptation of Jules Verne's novel is stopping at the Parvis, having won the 2016 Molière for Visual Creation and the 2016 Critics' Prize for Best Set Designer. They're arriving at the Parvis, not in the cast of the Comédie Française with Christian Hecq playing Captain Nemo, but in the cast of the revival at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin in 2023, starring Laurent Natrella, who also played at the Comédie Française. Mikael Fau will play the savage. The Parvis is sold out, but that doesn't stop you from trying your luck on the evening of the show.
