Duo and improvisation with Laurent Carle at the Celtic Pub
At the end of a rockin' week, Le Celtic presents a concert of pure freedom, featuring a collaboration between Fabien Duscombs, a drummer from the jazz scene, and Laurent Carle, a musician and composer whose artistic boundaries blur the lines, moving seamlessly from classical to improvisation, and from organ to piano. We asked him a few questions to find out more about what they have in store for us at Sunday night's concert.
Duo YZ
This is a very original format you're offering us at the Celtic.
Yes, it's a piano and drums duo. Two very complementary instruments that give Fabien and me a great deal of freedom. It's largely based on improvisation, on the interactive and complementary nature of the two instruments. It's a format I've already experimented with other drummers, and it works very, very well!
Is it the difference between your musical backgrounds that fuels this freedom?
We do indeed come from different backgrounds, but we share the same language, particularly in jazz. So there are many connections that create freedom, and the cultural differences actually allow us to go quite far together.
What kind of music will you be exploring?
We can explore many different genres of music. I plan to start with jazz pieces that we'll rework to give them a new version. But we can start with different kinds of music, explore different paths that can converge. We can play a jazz piece in a completely different way. It can be very harmonic or more frenetic. I don't know yet what will come out of it, but it will be interesting either way because we're in sync. It'll be a surprise!
On ne s’y trompe pas. Quand un musicien qui sait passer de l’orgue à l’improvisation jazz rencontre un batteur de la classe de Fabien Duscombs, le résultat est tout à fait prometteur.…

A great weekend at the Celtic Pub. After the funk of SugaMama and the metal of Ah-Katun and Knox, Sunday night's concert will feature Footprints, a jazz duo from Tarbes comprised of Fernand "Nino"…
With the announced closure of the Celtic Pub, it's a blow to the Tarbes music scene in the Hautes-Pyrénées region and beyond. And to the public, who've grown up on the most eclectic of programs.
Avec plus de 150 concerts par an et la qualité de l’écoute de son public, le Celtic Pub est devenu une des scènes les plus actives du département et un lieu de culture incontournable.
