Did you know Vulcain?
Actually, no… We didn't know the band.
And now that you've listened, do you recognize yourselves in this 80s heavy metal?
We're inevitably influenced by the past; all current metal genres come from those roots. But we don't follow the same approach. We feel more influenced by the thrash scene from the United States, like Pantera, Machine Head, or Trivium. When we listen to Vulcain, we think they were guys who went for it wildly, who didn't overthink things, that it was a freer world with less marketing and all that goes with it! Now we're trying to be richer. It makes me think about what we're doing. Maybe we need to be careful to keep that spontaneity, to just give it our all!
Steel Larsen returns after a year's absence.
Was it a necessary break?
We wanted to evolve towards something more modern than what we were doing. It caused some problems within the band. Pierre, the guitarist, left, and we stopped just like that. We were caught between two stools, but now we're starting again with a clearer vision, practically from scratch with Valentin, the new guitarist. Almost nothing remains of the old Steel Larsen; we've rebuilt everything.
Nearly two years after opening for Mass Hysteria, here you are back on the Gespe stage!
For us, it's not the same. With Mass Hysteria, it was a great experience; we were fresh out of high school. Now, it's a different band; we're more mature, with stronger musical convictions. For us, Saturday's concert is a test that will showcase the band's new potential. We can't thank La Gespe and Pierre Domenges enough for trusting us with this new set! We've worked so hard, now we're bursting with energy, we can't wait to get on stage and play the first chord!
