How would you describe Koun-Koun?
It's the meeting of six people, a great story of friendship between six musicians who come from very different musical backgrounds. It started in this configuration in 2002. We came together because we wanted to create something together. Some come from rock, even punk. For others, it's jazz or electronic music. Koun-Koun is a very free mix of these inspirations. There are no barriers! We really have our own style. And it appeals to people who like progressive rock, to those who like rock 'n' roll, and to those who like electronic music.
Koun-Koun is also a bit of an anomaly: with three bassists, you have an unlikely configuration…
Three bassists is a configuration that can also work. It's three very different styles that open up rhythmic and melodic possibilities for us. Klöd is very deep, with rhythms that oscillate between funk and jazz-rock. Jean-Marc focuses more on faster, rock 'n' roll-style parts. And I provide the link between the guitar and the drums.
We haven't seen you on stage for a while. Was Koun Koun on hiatus?
We haven't performed since last February or March, but it's a forced break. It's not for lack of wanting to play, it's simply not easy to find gigs for a six-piece band. So we each played on our own, in other groups. Alex with Chu Tsao and Grolürg, me with Madeleine, and Klöd is involved in theater. We continued to see each other every week, and we're really happy to be coming to the Celtic!
What are Koun Koun's upcoming projects?
We're preparing a new album that we'll record next April. We already have six tracks ready that we'll play on Saturday at the Celtic. We still need to record four more to complete the album, which should be released next May or June.
