What do you share in Bonjour Mademoiselle?
I wanted to say goodbye and especially thank you to Dr. El Mehdi Michel Caruso, who was my psychiatrist at the CMP. He meant a lot to me because he was a truly exceptional psychiatrist! I started writing the book before I met him, and he appears in the story just as I was changing psychiatrists. I then wrote day by day about what I felt with him, his humor, his way of being. And when he died suddenly, the sky fell for me because he was so supportive. I then continued writing in a second part, written in two voices, putting myself in his shoes, imagining what he would have said based on what I had experienced during those consultations.
Why this title?
He greeted me with "Bonjour Mademoiselle" at each consultation. To other patients, he called them "Grand Chef." He always had a very personal way of connecting.
Why put Lisa in your shoes in this book?
It's a reference to a text I had written before. It's also a little bit of distance that I'm putting into a book where I'm laying myself bare.
Is the brevity and concise style of your writing dictated by the subject?
I practice this very concise writing style a lot, whether through song lyrics, poetry, or haiku. I wanted to give this rhythm to the book because the essential doesn't always need a lot of words to express itself.
