Interview Dieval & les Propulsions - Le Celtic (Tarbes)

Dieval finishes the Brighton tour at the Celtic Pub

Happiness is often found in simple things. It's in this spirit that we'll see Dieval & the Propulsions on Saturday night, a band that is to rock what sausage and mashed potatoes are to gastronomy: a simple, incredibly effective formula that always brings joy. Franc Dieval granted us a short interview.

How do you explain the fact that so many kids who didn't experience the sixties are at Dieval & the Propulsions concerts?

Kids are much faster than we were at the same age. With the internet, they've already absorbed everything! In Dieval & The Propulsion, Philippe and Nicolas, the guitarist and bassist, are 18. At that age, we were still searching for the sound. These kids found it quickly! They've grasped the essence of the sixties and seventies, which they combine with other influences. It's a real pleasure to work with them. We bring experience, precision to the songwriting, we help them stay focused on the arrangements, but they already have the knack, the melody that works.

What's your state of mind coming back to the Celtic after touring all over?

It's also good to explore other places; we showed the kids there was something going on north of Paris! It was called the "Brighton Tour," in the spirit of the mods who came to the beaches on their scooters to get wasted. I've kept a lot of the music from that era! After that, Celtic is like coming home, where we truly feel at home. We're with family, with friends. We're here to have fun, to give fun!

What's next for Dieval?

We have a lot of new songs that we just recorded at DUS Studio in Bagnères. It was a real team effort with the kids. They participated in the songwriting, and they sing on a few tracks on the album. Ten tracks that are still being mastered, but the album will be finished next month. We'll still need to find a label for the next release…
