After appearing alone on stage as the opening act for Boulevard des Air, and accompanied by a double bassist three weeks ago at the Théâtre des Nouveautés for Dick Annegarn, Roocky will be performing at the Celtic on Thursday evening in a new trio format. We asked Jean-Baptiste Braman, aka Roocky, our questions.
After these great opening acts, how is Roocky progressing?
I've been writing songs for a few years now. Opening for Boulevard des Airs really helped me, getting noticed by audiences and meeting people like Mickael Jones's promoter at the Halle Marcadieu concert. These contacts allowed me to play elsewhere. And then there's also Pierrot Domenges from La Gespe, who's helping me move my project forward.
Are you claiming a song that talks about love with humor?
Yes, that's it! My songs talk about love, adventure, and other things in a humorous tone. I have a new song that talks about the reasons for singing. It should be called "I don't know how to talk about anything else." Love songs that can be lighthearted, but not that light.
And will there be three of you for Thursday night's concert?
I've tried a lot of things. Having too many people completely changes my songs, which I started playing alone. So I played as a duo with Fabrice on double bass a few weeks ago, opening for Dick Annegarn, and now we're moving into a trio with Fabien Duscombs on drums. We're going to try this setup Thursday night at the Celtic! We'll be sharing the evening with Olivier Gil, a singer from Bagnères whom I also know well.
What are Roocky's plans?
Playing concerts first. As for the rest, I'm currently working on another project, SugaMama's, which I'm going to record. After that, it'll be Roocky's!
