While the Pic d'Or will take place next Friday and Saturday, Celtic will welcome Tomislav from Thursday evening, a candidate who described himself last year as "a French folk blues singer, with many influences that go as far as rock."
Tomislav
Are you still that "folk blues singer"?
Yes, it's still songs influenced by folk and blues with lyrics in French to create a stronger connection with the audience.
You're releasing your first album this year.
"Avant le départ" features folk and blues songs that I've been playing on tour, some for three or four years, which I wanted to capture on a physical medium. It's also an album that allowed me to explore other styles. So many possibilities for the second album!
You're returning to the Pic d'Or once again. Is that important to you?
Yes, it's important because you meet a lot of singers and bands there. People whose news I keep up with, whom I meet on the road, and whom I meet again at the Pic d'Or.
Do you approach your concert in front of the Celtic audience the same way as your audition in front of the Pic d'Or jury?
It's not the same thing. Thursday night at the Celtic Pub is a full concert. I have time to settle in and establish communication with the audience. Performing in front of a jury is much more impressive. It's also much more direct; you have to convey all the concentration of an entire concert in a single song. But once the song starts, you find your bearings, and it's still a song in front of an audience. Listening to a jury is perhaps different, certainly more critical, more instantaneous.
