The program promises to be particularly eclectic for this first week of the All Saints' Day holidays with country, rock and jazz in complete freedom from the Duo YZ with Frédéric Messine on guitar and Laurent Carle on keyboard who answered our questions.
Duo YZ
You play in several groups. What are you developing in the YZ duo? It's a project that emphasizes compositions in a duo format that allows for a beautiful interaction between Frédéric Messine's guitar and my keyboard. We've been playing together for several years and have developed a good repertoire and a great musical understanding between us. We're constantly interacting. The compositions are written, but the scope for improvisation and the unexpected is increasingly greater. These are evocative compositions that leave room for what is created in the moment.
What is your state of mind when you return to Celtic? For us, it's a place of experimentation, to play new compositions, to hone our practice. It's truly a very welcoming place for this kind of approach. Since we'll be entering the studio the day after the concert to record our second album, Celtic will allow us to share these pieces with the audience. That way, when we get to the studio, we'll still be in the concert mood! The CD should be out early next year.
And your other projects?
Next Friday, it's Spirits, a quartet in which I play keyboards with Régine Gesta on vocals, Laurent Chavoit on double bass, and Pierre Dayraud. We're playing as part of the Jazz sur son 31 festival, with a world-jazz aesthetic that also leaves plenty of room for improvisation, with some covers that we wanted to be very open.
